Spotlights

 

  • New psychologist for Alternative Education:  Liza Taboada.  Liza will be responsible for the new Independent Study High School, which is comprised of all of the Learning Centers.  She will also assume responsibility for the "traditional" Alternative Education programs such as Home Instruction, Independent Study, SAILS, and MAAC Charter.

     

  • Special Services and the Department of Rehabilitiation have entered into a Transistion Partnership Program (TPP) Cooperative Contact which has the goal of assisting students, who are not interested in post-secondary education, find long-term employment.

 

 

  • Priscilla Jimenez, a student at Hilltop High School, who is visually impaired, has been selected as a representative to the YLF.

Priscilla.JPGWhat is Youth Leadership Forum?  The YLF is an innovative, intensive five-day training program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities. The training is presented in a fun, entertaining, and educational format in Sacramento, California. Young people with disabilities who demonstrate leadership potential, academic success, involvement in extra-curricular activities, community involvement and the ability to interact effectively with other students. Congratulations Priscilla & staff at Hilltop High School's V.I. Program for an excellent job. (May 2009)

  • Under the direction of Bob McKinney, LSH (Speech, Language & Hearing) Specialist at Southwest High School, this group of students have encouraged themselves and others at Southwest High School in a moving and inspirational presentation. (2008)
