Farm to School is a program that connects local farmers to schools. By using Farm to School, students are able to have access to local, farm-fresh foods for breakfast and lunch. The program also allows students, staff, and the community to be more aware of nutrition and eating healthy though different learning opportunities such as on-site gardening, farm visits and hands-on nutrition education.
Farm to school is one of the steps used to combat childhood obesity, an epidemic occurring for more and more American children. It is also a way for us to support small farmers and help keep their businesses going as well as a way to reduce our carbon footprint! SUHSD Nutrition Services is committed to building relationships with local growers and getting more fresh produce into our cafeterias.
