The Sweetwater Union High School District will not pay for the legal fees for three current school board members and a former board member.
Items had been placed on Monday's school board agenda to pay estimated legal fees for former Board Member Greg Sandoval and current board members Arlie Ricasa, Pearl Quiñones and Bertha Lopez. The requests to pay the fees for Sandoval, Ricasa and Quiñones died for a lack of a motion. Lopez withdrew her request that the district pay her fees.
The board members listened to hours of public testimony before receiving additional information from attorney Dan Shinoff. All current board members participated in the discussion of former member Sandoval's request. After board discussion, the item died for a lack of a motion to consider paying the fees.
The following item for discussion was for Board President Quiñones's request. Quiñones was required to recuse herself from the discussion and left the meeting while the remaining board members discussed the issue. Again, the item died for a lack of a motion.
Board Member Ricasa was required to recuse herself from the discussion and left the meeting while the remaining board members discussed the issue. Again, the item died for a lack of a motion.
The final item for consideration was to pay for the anticipated legal fees for Board Member Lopez. Lopez withdrew her motion from consideration.
