Cyber Saftey
It is VERY IMPORTANT
that Cyber Safety be a top priority when students are given
access to the Internet. Be sure you are aware of the
district Acceptable Use Policy found on the website listed
above. Information for parents and teachers concerning Cyber
Safety can be found on the other websites listed above .
The 3 major issues being
Access to inappropriate material, physical safety and
protection from web based sexual predators. Access to "chat
rooms" pose a very large problem due to the difficulty in
restricting access
Internet Searching
Techniques
Today we'll use some specific
techniques to locate resources through search engines and
subject directories
A quick overview on the
different search engines/directories
- Single search engines will
search on their database for the requested
search.
- Multi Search Engines will
search the request in many of the single search engines
and list the finds in each single search
engine.
- Subject directory will
search for categories, leads to home page, best for
searching general topics
Hotlist
Congratulations on learning
how to narrow your search! Now you can start on your
hotlist. Be sure that the sites you choose use the web
effectively! Things to look for when you are
searching.
Timeliness: Make sure
that your web site is up to date information, for example
today's news, weather, recent scientific studies,
etc.
Access: Look for
primary sources that otherwise would be unavailable to you.
Through e-mail and specialized web sites, you can contact
the movers and shakers throughout the world.
Multimedia Content:
Sound and animation can be extremely engaging learning
tools. When multimedia is propely done, thes resources can
provide an unequaled learning resource.
